Mount & Blade

I really enjoyed this game as well, paid £5.69 for it and i have had at least 300 hours out of it. Not sure how but once you get some of the realistic mods on and start changing the way the game deals with situations things get very exciting.

Some epic battles to be had with this game.

I paid £11 for it waaaaay back in early beta and it was money very well spent. It was a little awkward to get into (hopefully that has been improved now) but the combat system was pretty unique at the time.

It's good fun, battles are very satisfying but you're always best getting mods for it as some of the mods are utterly brilliant.

Quite basic in many areas though, don't expect an "oblivion" but for pure blood and guts it's immense fun :)

I bought it for £11 ages ago and to be honest didn't touch it until I was REALLY bored one night, when I did though it was several weeks of downloading mods, screaming with glee as I headshotted someone right in the eye with a crossbow bolt and then drew my claymore across someones neck... ooh hell yeah!

Woah, its a brilliant deal. Awesome game.

Tons of mods, they are the best bits really. Original is a bit meh. But the mods are awesome.

Definitely worth it, like everyone has said, some great total conversion mods around - Star Wars, lasers, lightsabres, speeder bikes etc instead of bows, swords and horses for example.

Also get in on the Warband multiplayer beta which is good times too - chaotic Medieval Total War in a first person view = fun.

Get the prophesy of pendor mod.

I have bought around 3 copies, but spent a fiver on it back in the beta days, one of the best games ever. It's a real breath of fresh air when most stuff that comes out these days is overhyped ********.

Just try any mod you fancy, the loader has a built in mod management system so you can easily switch between them before starting your session. No backing up of files or overwriting problems to worry about.

Good place to start would be here though - Major Mods

Yeah..I got quite a few characters to level 6 before finally biting the bullet :)

Can you still do that with the steam version do you know?

I would imagine he means still mod it to hell and back when it's purchased via steam.

Ah right, then I guess so, Steam uses the same files/folder structure for the actual installed games it's just that instead of the usual C:\Program Files\MountandBlade\Modules it'll be C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\MountandBlade\Modules

Shouldn't make any difference to the usage of mods, apart from the initial install path of course :)
