Hi,

I've decided to get a Mountain Bike for riding to work and for exercise on my days off.

I've spent all week looking at various bike sites but I just seem to be going round in circles so I went into my local bike shops today only 1/3 of the stores were interested in serving me unfortunately.

I'm looking between the Saracen Tufftrax Comp Disc Bike (2011) £350 and the Trek 3500 disk £325.

I've pretty much decided that I wont be buying one online but I'd like some help deciding between the two please.

Unless you're actually planning on going off-road then you probably want to look at a hybrid for commuting rather than a heavier, knobbly tyred mountainbike.

Boardman make some nice ones, as do Specialized, Trek and Scott.

Start here...

What's the top end of your budget? If you can stretch to £400 then there are some fairly good options available:

Specialized, Focus, Cube & Scott look good.

At the lower end of the budget though you may be better off avoiding bikes with disc brakes as they almost always lower the spec elsewhere on the bike to keep the price low.

It's 50 quid, wait a month and buy a better bike unless you really have to get one this minute. You're going to have this thing for years and ride hundreds of miles on it so you're better off spending a bit more.
