Hi, can anyone please spec me a bike based on a budget of c.£400.00

I've looked online and there are loads of differing opinions, but would be nice to have the opinion of those who've purchased the items!.

I note there's £50 off online on Halfords at present, and have also perused Evans Cycles, amongst others.

I'm going to use generally for cycle paths and getting about the streets.

Might attempt the odd endo and wheelie if I'm feeling risque and wanting to recapture my youth!

Many thanks

Thanks mate, I did see this before, but it didn't seem too detailed.

Regards

It's a decent article that explains the limitations of your budget and guides you in terms of what your priorities are. there's also a big list at the bottom of other bikes they tested, might be worth while and reading those reviews and see what they liked/didnt like about them. Just because a bike is good/not good for a reviewer, doesn't;t mean you won;t like it and some characteristics might appeal to you.

checking out that voodoo bantu that SS suggested, not unsuprisingly it looks good, 7005 frame, air forks with a lockout, shimano hydro brakes. only slight negative at that price point is 24 speed and not 27. but the sub £400 9 speeds have heavier frames and cable brakes, unless you find a good discount somewhere.

My advice is to try riding (or at least sitting on) the bikes you're looking at buying.

On a computer forum like this it's tempting to just look at the technology (no. of gears etc.). But a bike is a more personal decision in terms of what fits your body.

I've owned more expensive higher specced bikes, but then have gone back to other bikes purely because they fitted me better...
