Mountain Biking

Glentress or Innerwhatsit(can't spell)? For someone that's been to neither (i.e. me)
Weekday or weekend?

Taking a bike to Snowdonia as well, 'cow? I can't remember if you've done Antur before but I would've thought it (and Revolution) right up your street if you're in the area.

When Begbie and I rode BPW (and Supercow!) on a Saturday a few months back we managed 7/8 trips on the bus on a singles (paying driver/singe uplift tickets), but I think we were lucky that day as it's usually full on weekends. However the differing abilities/speeds of people means not every bus load gets back to the bottom at the same time so you may get lucky.

South Wales;
Cwmcarn (but like you a good chunk of the Twrch trail is closed)
BPW
Brecon Beacons
Afan !!! (Seriously go if you've not been)
And Brechfa over Carmarthen way
And loads of non trail centre riding.

Yeah from the sounds of it we got lucky, I think the rain forecast put many people off. We got lucky with the weather too.

Weekday is better, as it's quieter and you don't get slowed down as much. But a weekend is fine, inners is nearly always quiet though and seems to run awesome regardless of the weather.

If only one day, I'd do the freeride park in the morning and the full red at glentress and then the red at inners in the afternoon if you have enough energy. I'm not sure what I prefer, but your not going to be upset with either.

Forgot to buy a massive Union Flag to carry around. The American flags and symbols on display is going to be off the scale for this race.

Woke up to a flat rear tyre :( I haven't been on the bike in 6 weeks, but the front tyre still had air in it.

I've pumped the tyre up, so I'll check later today and see how it's holding up. Since I run tubeless, is it likely that I'll have to replace the whole tyre or is it possible that it's not seated correctly on the rim?

It just leaked some air over the last 6 weeks, nothig to worry about. Put some more sealant in there if you can. No need to change anything

Thanks dude, I hope you're right. It was completely flat this morning :( Since the bike lives at my work, I don't know when it went flat.

Need to buy me a bottle of sealant.

Can anyone recommend any sites for buying mtb clothing and accessories other than the usual chain reaction, start cycles, and wiggle?

After some Enduro Hummvee's but don't fancy the £45 price tag when my budget is tight (any similar, cheaper recommendations wouldn't go a miss).

Endura distributes directly IIRC, so you'll most likely not find the latest year's models much cheaper than RRP.

Most tubeless tyres will deflate after that long not using it for that long, and in fact will be anyway even if being used regularly. Just touch up the air pressure now and then.

Still waiting for my shock.. ive come to the conclusion that fishers/rockshox are useless.. It was 6 weeks last year I had to wait and its looking even longer this time... Like seriously.

Haha, only just realised that? :)
Fox might be expensive, but one of the reasons they are, is because the enormous amount of stock Mojo carries etc. and near guaranteed turnaround times (on top of really narrow margins!)

If I could find a shock to fit which doesn't void the frame warranty I would have bought it. I nearly asked for my money back for the bike because its annoying now.

Took a trip up to Comrie Croft trails today, was planning on going yesterday but I had to stay in for a delivery, I'm so glad a did because the weather today was just amazing!
Didnt really know what to expect of the place. Rocked up there and popped into the onsite bike shop where a very helpful owner provided me with a map and suggested route, order of the day was a quick loop of lower blue, before a Full loop of the high forest red attempting to get in as many trail options as i can up top before descending on the Red/Black.

Again I had no idea what the trails were like, Blue was typical groomed trail centre stuff, with a mixture of fun and flowing singletrack and offroad access track, back down on the blue descent to half way point of the blue climb. enjoyable but hardly challenging, it was a blue after all.
So back up over the blue climb until you reach the high wood, and peel off to the Red, heres where the fun starts, gone is the typical trail centre singletrack, now your up in the woods where its rough and natural, nasty roots and rocks are the name of the game, the initial climb on the red its short but pretty brutal, climb can get pretty technical at times, careful line choice is key to keeping momentum, once up over the top, its in and out of dips through some really fun singletrack, through streams and over loads of bare bedrock, until you reach decision rock, its at this point you choose to do an upper loop or return to the trailhead.

Upper loop it was! this was by far the best bit of track on the hill, long singletrack that takes you back accross and back down to the start of the red, a good balance of rugged natural rocks, natural trail and man made trail centre style single track, fast and rough, momentum is key, keep pushing! keep light over the rocks! couple of nice black options up here, one of which caught me by surprise, "mind the drop" it says, dosnt mention anything about a gap... managed to get just enough speed to clear though, only just!

Back to the start of the red climb, back over to decision rock, took a breather before making the descent to the trailhead, faced with the choice, black or red??? black it is! again rough natural rocky and fast, down to the quarry before joining back on to the red to finish up.

Thoroughly enjoyed the trails, not as long as i had hoped but packed with features and scope for creative line choice. A friendly shop and helpful local riders is always a bonus, nice day out, will definitely be back again.

Unfortunately i forgot to get any photos up there as i was swinging between having too much fun and blowing out my ass on the climbs.:D

ive come to the conclusion that fishers/rockshox are useless..

HA almost every time i go into my LBS the owner is always bitching about them, absolutely despises having to deal with them.

Took the FSR out for a 20k ride last night, singletrack at night is quite fun with a decent light up front :)

Noticed a bit of creaking from the shock towards the end, and noticed the rebound knob is JUST touching the frame inside the seat section on higher compressions.

I am thinking of either grinding down the rebound knob (seems more sensible) or taking a small notch from the metal under there, as its a point of the frame that is largely there for closing up the frame, rather than critical structure.

You can see how tight a fit it is, mounting upside down is impossible due to the linkage shape.
