Gonna be swapping out my headset soon. Are there any extra precautions I should take when removing a headset from a carbon frame?
.. crown race removal is from the fork steerer though, nothing to do with the carbon frame.
Haha, like the analogy.. crown race removal is from the fork steerer though, nothing to do with the carbon frame.
Spud, best tool I've used for headset removal - is a steel tyre lever, as the lip of the lever slips perfectly into the ridge on a headset. Also helps when you've been able to get a little bit of space under the crown race, the leverage that bugger out.
To press headsets, I've gone and bought a headset press from superstar... as I got tired of taping it in with a flat plank / mallet![]()
Wouldn't I be better off using a proper headset removal tool like this:
I'll take a look at the SS tool. Anyone tried the cheapo home made tools you can pick up on ebay for about £10?Never been a fan of hammering in a headset personally, especially don't like the sound of doing it into carbon![]()
What frame is it?
Surely there won't be any hammering onto carbon?
I thought they all had integrated bearings that dint need hammering?
I think some older frames had metal sleeves inside the headtube to hammer the headset into?
Anyone with an Aeris (Begbie?) what weight builds have you got?
I believe my Aeris.RS is 28lbs.
You're still alive, where you been lately?
Haven't touched my bike in almost 5 weeks because I've been so busy over the weekends. But, my friend and I have a long weekend booked in Coed-y-Brenin in August which I cannot wait for.
