Mountain Biking

argh, you've got me looking at that Shan GT frame again... weirdly there's no shipping cost on the PP website going to UK, surely that's wrong?

it's an expensive route, as I've already told myself that if I'm building a bike then I might as well get a new 160mm fork for my Jeffsy, and use that 150mm Fox34 in a HT. (and eventually change the rear shock on the Jeffy to a coil and give it 160 there too)

need to stop looking... we're thinking about moving house, so I cant justify that cash on a backup bike...

Shan PP is an epic bike. I have two. However, also look at the BIRD AM Zero. You'll need to size it right (compared to the PPS) but it's both an outstanding and astounding bike and not to be ruled out when looking at AggHT or Enduro

Just buy a new bike dude :D

well that was the plan originally, but we're on a somewhat limited income, hence the cheaper bike in the first place. Cheaper to spend a couple of hundred quid every few months when we can spare it i guess. Also i cant deny the satisfaction of having "put it together myself". Its a little like my desktop that way, and i've pretty much traded making small changes to my desktop for making changes to the bike!

yeah, i had a quick look at the Zero AM. For some reason, I felt it was just too expensive for an 6061 aluminium frame. for £400 there's a Nukeproof Scout frame, or £350 for Commencal Meta HT AM frame. And the Zero is £530 inc axle, headset and seatclamp (to match the Nukeproof frame). Might as well spend a little more and go for the Shan for that... For the cost of the Bird (or Shan) build, it makes the Whyte 905 seem like a bargain. But, the Shan looks epic...

If PP have just been bought out by that new Forestal startup - will that mean a change to future Shans? (for better or worse...)

I think it's more or a collaboration. Certainly Titanium frames are on the horizon. I also have (built) an AM Zero for the other half. When you've got it between your legs, so to speak, that's when you realise it can easily hold its own against the Shan

I thought it was only a colab too, but this article says:
Production bikes will be made of carbon fibre, laid up at a custom manufacturing facility in Andorra, the same facility that Production Privée frames will be made in the future. Yes, Forestal had also incidentally bought my favourite steel frame maker!
so, this suggests more to it

Yes, and I really hope they stay away from e-bikes. Which is what Forestal make. I think the whole facade about a Ti bike is a bit of hearsay. Forestal make E-bikes...

I really hope Production Privee stick to their routes as their current No.5 frame is brilliant along with their current crop of HT frames.

Got a massive tear in my front tyre tonight. Never really liked them, they're Continental X Trails Kings or something. Crap in the mud, of which there will be plenty over the winter.

Anyone got any recommendations for some 29 tyres that don't cost too much? I have some 26' Maxxis Ardent on my old bike and thought they good till I gave the bike to the missus. Are they good value nowadays?

Hans Dampf?

the cheaper version is only £25

havent used the cheaper one but wouldn't run anything else than Magic Mary or Hans Dampf

fancier HD is £36 on bikediscount.de, think the old difference is the £££ one has the snakeskin sidewall

depends on how radical you want to get, MM / HD is best combo for serious stuff
HD / Nobby nic if you are a bit more of a pootler

Happy Friday all!

Got myself one of the sixsixone reset helmets its really comfortable, got an XL as I have a big head and post brain tumor op in 2016 want to make sure I don't have any more hospital visits :D

Are their any recommended goggles/glasses I can use (got to Chick Sands which is 10 mins drive from my house) as getting something in your eye when flying down a trail is not a nice experience

Brink not got any you can try?

I Tend to go goggles nowadays (its more socially acceptable these days with a normal (not full face) helmet :D)

currently I use the smith ones, which are excellent (although pricey ish) but they have ventilation that helps with not fogging up
I've had 100% ones are nice enough (and cheaper) people say the fox ones are fine too - both on CRC from £20-£35 ish

I've got a fear of damaging my face in some way and head also, although it makes me look like a pro and am clearly not a pro :D

I'll take a look now, thanks!

Sold my 7 day old Trek Marlin 7 2019 and picking up a Voodoo Bizango 2019 (ridden twice) later, couldn’t get the air shock, Shimano brake & 1x11 gearing out of my head :)

cant wait

It’s the rapid sandblasting of the bike and it’s components that is the worry.
Winter is coming :D

I bought 2 new bikes over summer but will likely use the old one for those conditions that destroy the drive chain.

Been looking at rail to trail and canal type routes for this winter for extra fitness.

That’s what I used to do but got bored with constant bike cleaning and maintenance so now do road riding over winter
