I intend to cut a fan sized hole in the bottom of a case, but do not want to mount a fan.

The reason is that this case sits inside a cupboard and I have already cut a hole in the bottom of the cupboard and put a fan in it, I want to sit the case over the top of this fan.

I would used a magnetic mesh filter, except the case is aluminium.

So is there a type of fitting that is commonly used for this purpose, without me resorting to a nut and bolt ?

I suppose I could take the fan out of the cupboard and fit it inside the case, though this will be difficult, given that the fan is screwed in from underneath said cupboard which is part of my TV unit which has all of my AV equipment in it.

this type of thing??

My basket at Overclockers UK:

MCiflex Computer Air Filters fits by way of a magnetic frame that is part of its structural design. This would adhere directly to the case and in the event that the case is non-ferrous (it has no iron in it's composition so that a magnet is not attracted to it) we supply you with a peel and stick magnetic frame that is fitted onto your PC case, around the air intake area. DEMCiflex Dust Filter will attach to this frame, making it easy to remove and clean when necessary. We also offer free Filter Alarm Software that will alert you when the filter needs cleaning.

For what its worth, my solution was to take an old fan that was broken and cut 4 corners off it with a dremel.
Then just used normal fan screws screwed in to the 4 small bits of plastic I had cut off, to hold the fan grill on.

Didn't need a filter in this case as the fan blowing the air in is already filtered. :)
