Well I'm finally getting round to mounting my plasma to my living room wall this weekend.. But was just wondering what the best angle from the sofa it is best to have it at?

Is it usually best to have it slightly up in height from the sofa?

Thanks,
Andy

Hi,

Ive installed several plasmas for customers and i always recommend to them they they have the tv sited with the centre of the tv as close to eye level when sitting down as possible.

Some listen, some dont. However 2 of the people that didn't listen had me back to lower the tv after. Mount it much higher than i recommend and you'll find your constantly looking up to watch tv and will find it uncomfortable and annoying :)

My sofa is quite low, the centre of my tv is already higher than my eye level while sat down! Might just mount it the same height it is now then.. :)

If you find that height comfortable then sounds good to me. I just use what i said above as a guideline obviously people do have differing preferences but if that works for you then you should be fine.

Any more questions, feel free to ask :)

I was led to believe that the bottom of any Tv panel should be at eye level when you're in a seated position, but I guess that depends on how far away you're sitting.

Mine is setup with the bottom about eyelevel when sitting , and the top just under eye level when standing. It's about 1.1 metres off the ground and the bottom of the actual screen about 1.15-1.2 off the ground.

I was reluctant to put it higher, and personally when I see plasmas just whacked up high on the wall I slightly cringe, and I was concerned about neck ache etc, but I actually wish I had went maybe another 10 cm higher. Neck ace is a non issue and viewing angles are great. I have the screen slightly tilted forward (about 1-2 cm over the height of the screen)

42" panny plasma

I mounted my old one up high (boy did I regret it)

Couldn't agree more with the posts here, Eye level all the way!

And if possible, stealthed cables, wall mounted speakers and and AV bench below. Job done.

But I guess that depends on how far away you're sitting.

I'm about 9 foot away and its a 50" screen.. Didn't get round to mounting it at the weekend anyway, was busy making brackets for my new PC desk in back room.. Have measured it out though and I think having the middle at my eye line is the best way to go.

Have got the bench below but not sure how to stealth the cables, its only one HDMI and power cable anyway so its not too bad..

You could use this stuff -

Ideally power cables and hdmi shouldnt be run together but try it and see :) You could also chop the wall out and plaster the cables in the wall. All depends how far you want to go and how much mess your willing to have. Ultimately having the cables plastered in looks best but imo a short run of mini trunking between the tv and cabinet isnt to bad overall

I cannot emphasize enough what others have already said. People that wall mount generally seem to think this goes hand in hand with mounting it high on a wall for some reason. Do not do this! Keep the center of the TV at eye level. My mate just got his mounted by someone and they talked him into having it centered vertically with the wall i.e. middle between floor and ceiling. I sat down on his sofa the other day and my eyes naturally looked at the logo of the TV on the bottom bezel. Feels unnatural to look at and he's gutted about it as it's a farse to move.

Did he have it mounted by a professional AV company?

Im an electrician by trade but have an interest/passion for AV. Im tempted to try and focus more on the AV side of things.

Trunking annoys me, i'd rather have the TV on a stand than wallmounted without the cables "properly" hidden.

However, my TV is mounted way too high, error, we're going to lower it at some point...

Yeah, for me if the cables aren't hidden in the wall it's a big thumbs down and I wouldn't even bother.

tip for you , when you get the tv home take it out of the box and position the box where your thinking about having the TV, the box will be about the same size and will give you a great visual without having to hold a heavy Tv.

Shield anchors work best for actual fixings. :)
