Hi guys,

Mounting the TV above a radiator. Do I need a shelf above the radiator? If so, how high from the radiator is the minimum recommended and would a floating shelf work?

My TV currently sits opposite my corner sofa in front of a radiator as per the diagram below. Unfortunately I can't swap them round in the room as the sofa is too big to fit in the space where the TV is.

The radiator is largely set to off as there is another one on another wall. Unfortunately this is the biggest radiator and may need to come on in the depths of winter.

Thanks

Is it a single or a double? If its a single just swap it for a double thats half the height but same width, ive had to do that in our back room so i can get the tv to a more acceptable height, alternatively you could get the pipes rerouted to the corner and put a vertical rad in of equal output freeing up wall space. As long as the tv isnt right ontop of the rad it wont affect it really.

Double radiator.

Recommend putting a shelf over it? I want to keep the TV as low as possible as the sofa is quite low. The TV is 42" at the min but thinking of saving some space for a future upgrade to a 50".

The problem with the space at the minute is it all looks a bit bare as it is all low against three white walls, hence mounting will clean it up and use the space more effectively. Will mount the speakers to the wall too.

Personally i would just get the rad moved to the wall with the windows then, then forget about it plus you have a rad with nothing blocking it and your tv unit under the tv still with tv mounted at whatever height you like.
If you pull up the floorboards yourself and buy all the pipes and elbow joints, drain your system and disconnect the rad, it wont cost much for a plumber to come in and reroute the pipes.
I wouldnt want a shelf over the rad pushing the tv higher, i really dont like them high up the wall, I would rather spend a few quid once and be happy with it.
