Mounting waterblock on a delided 4790K without IHS

Did any one here tried installing a waterblock on a delided 4790K (or another Haswell CPU) without IHS (bare CPU)? EK are selling a mounting kit, which just contains the mounting screws with the right height for Evo Supremacy blocks. Any one tried them?

Yes, imo you'll want one of those delid die guard type things to hold the CPU in the socket, if you simply use the pressure from the waterblock you're unlikely to get a flush contact across the surface of the core.

exactly that's what is bothering me. Is there such a guard available on market?

done it 3 times and never had a problem.
BUT i and other have found temps are lower if you refit the lid.

That's interesting. Why it is like that? I thought removing a medium in the middle will make things only better.

Did you use the delid guard accessory from MSI?

Same here. My temps were higher with the IHS off. I had the naked Ivy kit for my block too. In the end I used Coolaboratory Liquid Pro on the core and refitted the IHS with gasket sealant. I lapped the IHS while it was off as well due to it being very convex.

Not clear if you were using the delid die guard?
