Mountune has given the mk3 Ford Focus RS 513bhp

Forged engine internals at the bottom of the list like it's a packet of crisps.

Realistically at a glance this must be a £10k upgrade at least? 160bhp for that price sounds much less impressive.
£5975 for the m520 kit
£3775 for the m400r kit
£1400 for Forged Connecting Rods
£840 for Forged Piston Set
£??????? Labour cost
Plus I bet there going to be other bits needed

So it going to cost around 15k for the 513bhp m520 upgrade

If I had 15k to just drop on an engine tune, I’d probably be looking at putting a deposit on something that comes with that sort of power anyway. (Like a second hand Nissan GTR)

Then just get that mapped for pennies

Agreed Focus RS + 15k tuning, I am guessing is 40-50k total cost, for that kind of money there is way way better cars to buy, like a GTR or even the new Supra and just remap that, seems they get great results. Or even an RS3 or A45 AMG and again add a map.

For £43-45k you could get 2018 C63 with 470bhp, that's where I'd go with my money instead of a tuned Focus.

Yes lot of options, sports cars, hyper hatches, super saloons or a very fast GT car like GTR, Supra, I suppose if you love the RS and its a dream car then for some its right choice.

Spending all that extra on a Focus RS and it will likely then be driven for 6 months and sold as per pretty much everyone in the early 2000's who bought and tuned Subarus and Evos. For £40-50k there's much nicer cars out there that will be as quick or quicker straight out of the box and likely infinitely more reliable.

Same boat I am in with my mk5 gti...

450-500 bhp with a hybrid k04 turbo, forged engine, remaps and all the other extra bits. Great but you're talking £5k for the mods. Then you'll need to increase handling and brakes, another £2-3k.

Add that to the value of the car of £4500 and I'm looking at S4 money with AWD, supercharger and 330bhp as standard.

Better mpg too and more space for the family.

A mate did this. He's worked on his Evo and had hit about 450bhp but couldn't justify spending any more on it. It was lovely. So, sold it for £13k i think and through it all at an already modified GTR sitting around the 700bhp mark.

Yeah sounds like you've done the smart thing and talked yourself out of spending huge money on an older car!

When it was just me and the wife I used a Megane 225 as my daily and we had the 172 which was supercharged, so spent about 7k on forging the engine and a load of other totally OTT mods when in hindsight buying a faster car would have made more sense. It's now relegated to track use only, as it's too quick and frantic to use on roads as well as loud and uncomfortable.

If it's your only or main family car, then S4 would be a total no brainer. Or any estate for that matter!

Well, I'm trying to get the wife to have the gti as I love it, great fun car, but she's being funny as it's a 3 door so no good for 3 kids, but I manage fine. Then, trade her old 06 A4 in for pennies off a S4 Avant and have both :D I prefer the saloon but the Avant is better suited to family life. Then I can modify both :D

If you can afford to keep it off the road as a track/weekend toy do that, although I've done that and found driving my M140i just as fun due to the RWD. Okay so it wasn't as bonkers fast, but both cars faster than I need and even feel the same with the 335d but have the added luxury of extra storage space and economy.

Defo the Avant too, I actually think they look nicer!
