Mouse acceleration

ok, so i've tried i dont know how many different things to get my mouse working properly

the problem:

i move my mouse fast... and it moves less than when i move it slowly

usually its the other way around?

i really cant figure this out... ive tried xp32/xp64 and tinyxp - i had it working fine on xp32, then i installed xp64 then installed tinyxp then xp32 again...

have all the windows updates, currently in device manager i have a ? by PCI Device and Unknown Device

things ive tried:
new mouse
with and without drivers
3 different operating systems
different USB ports + one of those concerter things that use the ports mice used to
also tried the CPL mouse fix that I used origionally (when it worked)
tried editing the reg myself

i really give up on this one... i could do with some help

I'm that desperate that im offering £10 to the person who helps me to fix this (paypal)

Mouse options. Change the speed in Pointer Options.

This is in XP by the way...

no i'm talking about mouse acceleration

curser moves a different length depending on how FAST i move my mouse isntead of FAR i move it

usually it moves further if i move my mouse faster

but its the other way around... and refuses to change

i'm sure there is an option in the mouse control panel. something like pointer acceleration. could be it?

I really cant work out why i'm having this problem...

would anyone know if Vista has the same problem?

Are you sure it's not your mouse being unable to track when you move it fast? Try different surfaces.

I would definately try a different surface. Set default bios etc. Install the mouse official drivers and make sure the polling rate isn't very high. Etc,etc.

tried the desk and my old mouse pad just now, its the same

also tried my logitech g5... its the same

plus before all this... (same pc) it worked perfectly

im going to try updating my bios/chipset drivers, abit have released version #22 (im on #6) so ill give it a try

If you're using a logitech mouse, download and install setpoint from their support site (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/support_downloads/downloads/&cl=us,en).
Within setpoint, there are mouse acceleration options (none/low/medium/high) etc, and also an option to 'Use setpoint implementation' or 'Use Operating System implementation'. Try Setpoint implementation - this will ignore/override all windows settings altogether.

ok, so I bought myself a new motherboard (old one was on the way out anyway)

still no change... I thought it could have been the ports or somthing, I guess not

the only thing I can think of would be my torrented version of windows...

i have tried torrented xp64 + xp32... anyone think that could be the problem?

what mouse are you using?

with most gaming mice you just increase the DPI on the mouse its self like on the saitek 3200.

sounds like what you have is called is negative acceleration.

Reduce the mouse DPI. Try defauly USB port speed (125mhz). Try PS2 port? or even a different USB port.

Untick the option: "Improve precision of the cursor" in the Control Panel for Mouse settings.

try googling fixes for that.. Have you tried a fresh XP32 install? Do it with a mouse you knew that worked also.

done eventhing there apart from usb port speed... how would I do that?

btw, problems started when i installed xp64 onto my new harddrive, but i then installed xp32 and there was no difference

as xp32 didnt make any difference i went back to 64...

Not sure about the weird case the OP is having, but the Windows control panel option is called "enhance pointer precision" and toggles between some and lots of acceleration IIRC.

Just so everyone's clear, mouse speed and mouse acceleration are different things. If there is no mouse acceleration then physically moving your mouse 5cm across your mouse pad will always produce the same on screen result, regardless of how quickly you covered that 5cm.

If mouse acceleration is present, then the speed at which you physically cover the 5cm affects the on screen result. So if you do 5cm slowly, the cursor will hardly go anywhere and if you do 5cm fast, the cursor will go miles. This is enabled by default in XP and OS X (and Vista I'm sure).

(I personally find it sloppy and irritating so always get rid of it)
