Mouse accuracy?

Something that's ALWAYS annoyed me about FPSs is a seemingly poor mouse accuracy, making aiming feel sluggish.

The best way to explain it is thus:

In a game, say BFBC2, the smallest registrable movement of the cross hair is more than one pixel; I think it's about 3 or 4. So while sniping from a distance, trying to line up on someone's head is nearly impossible. If the crosshair is too far left, making the smallest movement possible to the right moves the pointer too far and I'm on the right side of my target.

On my desktop the smallest possible movement I can make is one pixel. But in games it's 3 or 4. This gives the impression of a poor frame rate almost, and aiming generally feels awful.

Would a higher DPI mouse fix this problem? How does mouse/pixel accuracy work?

Mine's just a basic Logitech wireless mouse that came in a keyboard pack.

How do you do this matching you speak of? Is there software for it? Or is it a case of buying a decent mouse and hoping the game likes it..

Well first off I've simply tried getting used to a lower sensitivity. I've pretty much halved it, and it's feeling OK. It's still not 1:1, but may put me off buying a whole new mouse if I can stick with it.

Maybe if I wind up with the money at some point. New mobo first!
