Mouse catching on Mat

So I am slowly being driven insane by what appears to be my the laser on my mouse have trouble reading properly in a certain section of my Ocuk mouse mat.
has anyone else had this issue and if so how did you go about fixing it, I am currently contemplating stabbing the mouse mat in retribution for the annoyance.

I've never really got on with mouse mats. I tend to use mine straight on the desk. Depends if your desk is mouse friendly though.

Ive been using a razor lachesis with the OcUK xxl mat for years now with no problems.
