ey up,

I've had various boards and setups in the past but one common issue I've come across is when overclocking SOMETIMES the mouse doesn't work on bootup.
Simply disconnecting and reconnecting it, gets it working again.

I've tried different PSU's, mainboards, even different mice (albiet they were both Razer mice).
It doesn't seem to affect my keyboard (Logitech G15) as that always works everytime and I've tried different USB ports (on different controllers) to eliminate that.

Anyone else had this and if so whats the cure please? I'm thinking maybe its something in common with Razer mice?

thanks

yeah bud - latest revision of BIOS although I've never seen any BIOS revision fix this issue.

Also tried loads of different ports both USB2 and USB3.

I see your using an asus board (mvg - maximus v gene?) if so I can tell you what your experiencing is "normal", their has been many issues with the motherboards usb (mostly 3.0 ports) not fully working, I've seen it a lot on the V and have experienced it myself on the iv board I have in my sig, sometimes its been 2 ports, othertimes 4 etc and it is always intermittent (gotta touch wood here as I havnt had this issue in a while), no real way of solving it, try clearing your cmos and going to device manager (you should see a yellow triangle beside unknown devices, its most likely your usb port) and uninstall the usb drivers then re-install them (this was the best fix for me as it would be a temporary solution)

thanks for the input bud but I'm pretty sure its not just this board as I used to suffer the same problem with my Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 board :(

Saying that - it would only occur on the Asrock Z68 when I pushed the CPU up to 4.8Ghz - The mouse used to work fine at 4.6Ghz - just when I tried to push that little bit further would the board then give me intermittant issues with the mouse on bootup.

On the MVG however it's always doing it - irrespective of what clocks I have. Pretty sure the USB ports are driven by the chipset and not the cpu lol, but it's wierd it had a correlation on my previous board.

NP. I went from a m2n68-vm board to the maximus extreme iv -z and had the issues, I've been over to the rog forum and seen a lot of posts with the same problem, havnt had any other board so was unable to say if it wasa problem across various manufacturers :) - hope you get it sorted, as I know from experience it is a huge pain in the backside :@

Ta dude - I wonder if its just a Razer thing as I've had nothing but razer mice for nigh on 10 years (and I do recall it happening on my Q6600 when it was overclocked). Curious to hear from others that may be suffering the same - it only happens on bootup. Once I disconnect and reconnect the mouse it works fine....

I've seen this behaviour before where a PSUs 5V rail was slowly failing. Mouse would work fine on the desktop then randomly cut out as you did things (I.e. power draw grew). New PSU solved it.

These boards might have similar USB power issues of their own cause.

Defo not that mate, as I've been using a Corsair TX750W up until a couple of weeks ago when I changed over to a Corsair AX860W - problem never happens whilst using the mouse, Only upon first hard boot.
