Mouse DPI Setting for Best Precision

So from what I gather, a high DPI setting offers greater precision. But also when you increase it the sensitivity also increases.

So for playing games that have an in-game mouse sensitivity slider (Starcraft 2 in my case) would I be right in thinking that for maximum precision I should set the DPI on the mouse (G400) as high as possible, and then lower the sensitivity slider in-game to reduce the sensitivity?
Therefore having maximum precision but at a comfortable sensitivity..?

Am I right with this logic or have I misunderstood something along the way?

P.S. I know it doesn't make a whole lot of noticeable difference but would be nice to know I'm getting the best quality mouse control I can.
 
I had to reread your post a few times admittedly to fully understand your conclusion but i would agree that yes, the highest DPI which is most comfortable for you to use is the best option for efficient gaming.

While DPI increases the technical precision of your mouse, making it too high and therefore making your sensitivity too high will cause your physical accuracy to be greatly reduced and what is the point of having something very precise if it is inaccurate! So reducing your in game sensitivity will let you get over your physical inaccuracy, but i am sure that the precision of gaming mice or even most every day mice are so high that you are really just splitting hairs for peace of mind and in practice make very little, if any difference. (3600 dots per inch is quite a lot)
 
On my G500, i have 3 levels of dpi set. 400, 800 and 1900 dpi. Pointer speed at 6, polling rate at 1000, acceleration at 0. In game, (mostly bf3) i have mouse sensitivity set pretty low.

I have a RAT 5 and stupidly my highest setting is at its max DPI, when i accidentally click the button to increase it to 5600 DPI, i literately miss click everywhere and rage before realizing I've done what I've done. It does have a cool 'precision aim' button which cuts your sensitivity LOADS when you hold it down, i think its meant for fine aiming when your sniping and such. I have found very little use for it outside Day Z admittedly.

As for the in game sensitivity slider, i think most games which you lower them will lower the precision of your mouse anyway nullifying the effect. Though increasing sensitivity in game wont make your mouse more precise because it cant physically change your hardware, it probably just lets the game record more supposed DPI than it is. eg doubling sensitivity in game will probably make it believe that for every dot per inch you move your mouse it has actually moved 2. If its like this the other way round halving your sensitivity lets you ignore every other dot per inch. So in truth it will nullify the precision increase anyway.

At eh end of the day its whatever you feel comfortable with. I suppose if you played with high DPI and got use to it, in the long run it would be in theory better when your physical accuracy catches up to the setting your using.

Do whatever give you peace of mind i say! If they come out with 12000 DPI mice, people will still buy them and use them at 2000 DPI because even 2000 DPI is more than you will ever need everrrrrrrr.

I also use the Windows Fix/Mod to remove mouse acceleration completely by MarkC. Very easy to use/install and also very easy to go back to stock setting if you dont like.

I think it was an earlier post of yours shankly where i found the video link on mouse settings. Might give that mouse acceleration fix a try too. Thanks for sharing the link.
 
My personal "sweetspot" is around 2000 dpi @ 1080p, varies slightly depending on the mouse but its always around 2000.

And I keep windows sens at default with no accel.

More than 2000 its too skittish even if I turn ingame sens down.
