Mouse for gaming

Logitech G5/G9 if you want a great mouse or any of the razers if you like the feeling of cheap light plastic and like to e-peen a lot infront of friends.

G9 without a doubt (I have the G9x, but it's beyond your budget).

I've owned several razer mice: copperhead, deathadder, lachesis. Then recently I moved to the G500, and preferred it over all the previous mice. Still something not prefectly comfortable about it, so switched to the G9x. It is the most comfortable mouse I have owned yet, but take note, it is a good idea to have your desk setup comfortable so you're not resting too much weight on it. Just in my opinion I find it works best with a light touch. I bought this laptop table form ikea today for keyboard and mouse, with the idea being I can adjust position from the monitor and height from the ground with my chair (keyboard is a logitech compact k300 - might have trouble with larger ones).

Anyway I digress, I recommend trying out the g500 or the g9. G500 is something you can rest your entire hand on, but is a little heavy (you can finger it if your hands are large enough). G9 (specifically with the smaller shell): more like it is designed not to be noticed by your palm.

WMO 1.1a if your a fingertip high sens user
Razer Salmosa if your a low sens fingertip user
Razer DeathAdder if your a palm user works great for both low and high sens.

Logitech g510/518 are good for low sens palm users but not so readily available any more - the G5 is a poor updated version of it without as good sensor - it'll do in a pinch and is better than the rest not mentioned above - but is a poor substitute for a real gaming mouse - maybe being a bit harsh as its better than 90% of mice out there.

Don't be dragged into the laser hype - most of them (and same with most high DPI mice) are rubbish for gaming with a lot of pickup skip amongst other problems.

Do not go for the overpriced and crap newer Logitech mice, if it's for an 8 year old and you want a decent mouse that isnt gonna cost loads and go with the logitech 518, Really wish I could use this mouse I can't as im left handed so I went for the Razer Copperhead, decent enough mouse but I've been through 5 or 6 of them had to RMA them each time.

I just ordered the Steelseries Xai yesterday its lazer is a huge improvment over the current mice on the market 0 skipping.

I've got a razer diamondback. Wouldn't buy any other brand of mouse now that i've fallen for these.

On-the-fly sensitivity adjustment means you can change it in 10% increments, even in the middle of a game. 7 buttons, each one fully customisable. Pretty lights. Teflon feet as standard. Did I mention the pretty lights?

6 foot cable, gold plated connector, 100hz polling frequency (means you save about 7ms on anything you do with it). Software even lets you turn off the damn annoying "acceleration" that you get with standard mice.

get a gaming grade mousemat to make best use of it, although the precision of an infra-red sensor is unbeatable.

One thing to look out for... don't think the mouse is broken because there's no light from the bottom, and then look into it... its infra red, it'll burn your eyes!

Logitech, razer and microsoft all have very good gaming mice, everys opinion is different on which one is best.

Do not buy a Habu, mine has lasted about 2 months before its started to double click all by itself.

I'm in the market for a new mouse again now, i'll get this RMA'd then the crappy thing is going on ebay, its a damn shame cause its the perfect size for me :(

TBH, the thing I like about logitech is the flywheel scroll wheel. It's extremely useful in web pages and documents. Middle click is a little compromised (meaning it's not the best I've felt), but hardly a problem.
Honestly, sensitivity means very little now - shape and feel is everything. With the ridiculous ranges of sensitivity available, you can just tune it to your preferences as an afterthought.

I love my Microsoft Habu (that way too:p). Has got battered for 3 years and works like it came out of the box. £40 well spent for me, so I thought.
very recently I have had a double click like 'Sp00n' and its really pi****g me off. I'm looking at the Coolermaster Sentinel, but waiting to see if the price comes down :)
