Is my mouse driver crashing or something?

Every 10 -30 mins recently my mouse has started freezing, a few seconds later I hear the sound you hear when you disconnect a usb peripheral, then it starts working again. It's getting rather annoying now.

Any ideas on how to fix?

Thanks!

i had similar problem in the past but cant remember what i did to fix it,you can try:

change the usb port.
install latest logitech mouse driver.
download all driver updates for mobo.
flash mobo with latest bios. do this last.

I had this issue, it turnned out the USB cable was damaged. Does it happen with all mice/mouses ?

Yep, USB cable was damaged :(

I've written a letter to Logitech Customer Support to see what they say.

Hi there,

For a week or two I was having issues with the mouse randomly freezing, then I would hear the Windows sound that occurs when you disconnect a USB device, then the mouse would kick back in again. It was happening every 10-60 minutes and was very frustrating when working, and even worse when trying to game.

I couldn't see anything obviously wrong with the mouse so kept using it thinking it was a software issue until I eventually got a hold of a spare mouse to test and unplugged the original.

This seemed to fix the problem, a couple of days later I went to feed the mouse to my cat and have a small ceremony in the garden to mourn its loss when I noticed something strange about the cable. A glint caught my eye. Upon further inspection I noticed the wire had melted away to reveal the metal fibre beneath.

I was shocked and astounded to say the least; I tried to figure out how on earth this could have happened. After years of loyal service and thousands up thousands of kills racked up in Call of Duty I couldn't imagine what on earth I could have done to cause such distress to the cable. After few hours of pondering this quandary over a few refreshing pints of beer I realised there could only be one explanation.
The previous week I had taken it upon myself to start experimenting with alternative weapons in Black Ops after getting a bit bored with the usual ones. On that fateful night that the troubles began I distinctly remember spending a good hour or so using nothing but the flame-thrower attachment to BBQ my opponents. Then it all made sense and is the only logical explanation. The intense heat generated from overusing the flamethrower must have caused the wire to melt, I’m just glad I didn’t burn my trigger finger.

It seems as if you may want to re-address what materials you use to surround the cabling of your mice to protect the wires a bit better from the intense heat that's generated when using pyro attachments in game. I include a photo attached.

At least my cat now has a new plaything.

Best regards,
Alex
