Mouse keeps 'letting go' of my click

Hi all,

Noticed a problem recently

If I hold and click on something, like a link, to drag to the top of Chrome to open it in a new tab, sometimes the mouse 'lets go' of the click and clicks again, so I just end up highlighting stuff

Or if I'm copy a selection of files from My Documents, I click (and hold) start dragging, then the mouse will let go and drop the files into that folder that it was over

Very annoying lol

It's a Logitech VX Nano mouse and setpoint says the batteries are on 50%

Any ideas as to why it's doing this? Thanks in advance :D

My previous Logitech mouse used to do that and something similar where it would stutter on the screen every so often. I think it was in the end just up to replacing it with newer/better batteries

It's either the signal dropping out; Interference, low battery or the switch in the button has 'gone soft' for want of a better term. Usually happens when mice get old.

i'd be surprised if it's a battery issue. i have an el cheapo logitech wireless mouse and it works perfectly until the battery goes - it just dies instantly.

It sounds like a faulty left-button microswitch, which Logitech mice seem particularly prone to - I'm on my third Performance MX (replaced under warranty), as its two predecessors both failed with single clicks becoming double clicks, needless to say resulting in some bad words on more than one occasion.

Logitech are very familiar with the issue and will normally replace the item without complaint - if you're out of warranty there's a DIY guide to fixing the switches somewhere online, but the components are *very* small and fragile, and it should really be seen as a shot to nothing.

^ I've seen other Logitech customer-service threads and I understand their support is spectacular. Give it a go.

But, in the meantime, check for other processes/apps that might be running and stealing the spotlight from your active window, even momentarily.

Logitech's support is very good indeed in my experience - the first time I claimed on the warranty, they didn't even ask for the faulty mouse to be returned, they just sent me a new one straight away. They wanted the second one back (perhaps understandably), but the process was still as quick and painless as you could reasonably expect. :)

Hmmm sorry I forgot about this lol, thanks for all your replies

I'm obviously still having the issue, and it is getting really annoying, can't even click, hold and drag a link in Chrome up to the top to open it in a new tab as it lets go of the link, have to use 'Ctrl' instead

My mouse is very old, ordered it from Amazon on 25th July 2008, so it is well out of warranty

I did find a video of how to fix it on youtube but can't find anywhere to get the switch itself

Is it really worth it? Or should I just consider buying another mouse?
