Mouse keeps shutting itself off

I was using the internet but every now and then the mouse cursor would not move only lasting a second but noticable. While i had the music turned up i could hear the sound of a usb device being unplugged through the speakers and when this happened the mouse stopped working and worked again.

Is it the mouse itself? , its 5years old.
 
its likely to be the mouse cable, one of the wire inside it has either snapped or is wearing thin. i had that on my old mouse, had to tape the wire to the side of the mouse to stop it till i bought a new one.
