IMO instead of recommending mousemats you should find out what you want first, do you want a big smooth surface or something thats more textured? The exactmat is a good mat because its double sides so you have one side for 'speed' (smooth) and one side for presision (textured) (ruff)
I have had a icemat and thought it was very good if you want to keep changing the mouse feet every couple of days (weeks if your lucky) which imo got very annoying, plus that horrible scratching noise is another annoyence. (i havent had a steel mat so dont know if this is the same with that)
I would say a eXactmat as there the best all rounded mousemat, there very long lasting and have a good size (not stupidly big) and work very well with optical mice.
Also consider the Func mats, iv heard they are selling a new version thats bigger than the older one (that was the only problem with the old one) so that would be a good choice aswell.
If you want something thats material then im looking at the Razer Mantis, but dont have any info on that so far, this mat comes in a speeed and presision like the exactmat, but they come seperatly.
I hope that helps more than just saying 'a exactmat' wthout justifying why.
