Mouse movement causing freezing and internal beep

On my sisters computer, when the mouse is moved it will suddenly freeze and the internal speaker beep. It can work for a while without beeping but sometimes it beeps every 2 seconds or so.

What could cause this?
Problem with the mouse? I gave it a clean (it's just a MS intellimouse ball jobbie).

The keyboard works fine.

Did you plug it into correct port ?

Yeah.
It's been working fine for about 3 years. Set up exactly how it is now.

try restoring your BIOS

then start the PC up with no mouse, shut windows down with keyboard

then start PC up with mouse in green PS/2 port or USB port (if it was already in a USB port, try another one)
