I don't know if anyone has encountered this before, a week ago, I woke up and a bunch of windows were open and it was a great mystery. There were like 50x google chrome’s open and such. I decided to do a fresh install incase my system had been compromised. 2 nights ago I left my gmail open and when I woke up yesterday morning, a specific folder was open along with some other stuff opened on my computer.
After this, I ran 2 types of anti-virus and made sure the laptop was clean (or at least to the visible eye). I left the laptop on overnight and it happened again, random windows opened.
This morning I installed a desktop recorder and saw that when I closed the lid, the mouse would start moving around and also sometimes right clicking… however when I just let it go to “turn off screen after 1 minute” the mouse would not move.
I even disconnected my internet to make sure where was no remote access. Same thing happened when I closed the lid of the laptop… anyone have any clue what is going on?!?!

What I meant was, did you you download the CD image from some filesharing site, or did you image the original CD? What version of Windows is your COA for? Home?

Yes, I downloaded the image from the link in my previous post, which is a legitimate mirror. I think lots of people use it.

Windows 7 Home Premium is the OS

Just scanned with MalwareBytes (with latest updates) nothing found...

I've installed the touchpad drivers, it seems that when the lid is closed, it thinks I'm pressing the pad (can see from the icon in windows). When I hold the screen barely above being closed, it doesn't do it. It makes me think that the screen is causing some interference.

I also tried installing a different set of drivers, seems to make it not move around anymore, but still recognises the screen being closed as me pressing on the touchpad with 3 fingers... it's extremely odd...

What is the make and model of your laptop? What is your current BIOS version? Is the laptop still under warranty?

I would update your BIOS if it needs updating (remembering to clear all settings before and after updating). If that fails, speak to the laptop manufacturer. If the laptop is out of warranty, you may as well visit the auction site to look for a replacement touchpad.

Do you have a cordless mouse connected to the laptop!?... could a neighbor have the same mouse and they were 'connecting' their mouse at the exact time you connected yours!?..

I had a cordless keyboard on my work PC that had previously been connected to another machine (they both had the USB receiver thinngy) in the office, and my colligue could see everything I was typing!! lots of rude words ended up in his documents!! :D

thats all I can think!! :D

AFAIK there is no such thing as a 'legitimate mirror' for Microsoft software. However their may be some which contain clean versions of the software.

Had this a few times (open ms paint or something.. usually get some nice drawings) at work, tend to be either a fault connection for the touch pad or a fudged touch pad.

It's a brand new laptop. Acer Aspire 5333, will update to the latest version of bios if there is one... stil in warranty, but now that the mouse doesn't move around, just detects it as 3 finger press... think I might just leave it now. A lesson in security and also forced me to change all my passwords.

Thanks for all the advice!

ive seem a similar thing with touchpads when theyre starting to fail and the cursor wanders off across the screen and opens stuff

could also be worth downloading a linux live cd (ubuntu or something), boot into this (disconnect hard disk if need be) and see if it still happens. Rule out os.

Can also look at disabling the touchpad and see if it still does it.

Will give that a try tonight...

Actually when I disable the touchpad in Windows, it doesn't do this... so definitely an issue with the touchpad!
