Hey folks, I'm having a little problem with a new install of XP.

New build.

Asrock 939N68PV-GLAN Socket 939 nvidia 7050 onboard VGA 7.1
1gb pc3200 dual chan
1 x sata drive xp on this drive
1x ide drive
1x dvdrw ide

The problem I'm getting is that when I plug a p/s2 mouse in the pointer flys all over the place even during installation, or just wont move at all, I've managed to get a wireless usb mouse to work just about but I'm borrowing it.

I've tried 2 p/s2 mice both have the same problem.

Any ideas, I'm useing a copy of xp that has sp3 slipstreamed if thats any use.

Cheers.

SJ.

Sounds like the ps2 port to me. I know you've tried more than one but have you checked the pins on the mice? check if they are bent, also worth having a closer look at the ps2 port itself, may be dust of something that shouldn't be there wedged in.

Also check for dirt dust on the mouse, ball or optical. Dirt/dust on the lights or on the rollers.

Yeah just tried that, still dodgy, guess the port is poo poo, will just have to pick up a cheap usb mouse somewhere, not gonna send the mobo back just cos the ps/2 port aint working.
