Mouse randomly stops for a second every two minutes or so

My mouse (usb) has suddenly started stopping for about half a second on a regular basis. I did a reinstall about 2 weeks back, but this has only just started happening. Not installed anything recently either. I've done the usual stopping of processes until it stops, but this doesn't fix the problem. Nothing else on the system stutters, it's just the mouse.

Any ideas what causes this? I don't want to do another reinstall just because of this.

It's an old ms (wired) intellimouse that I've had for about 4 years - never gone wrong. Tried it in both 1.1 and both 2.0 sockets on the mb, same thing. Don't know whether to buy a new mouse or do a reinstall. Both are a faff :(

Second thoughts, I might do a reinstall of my xp64 OS on my other drive. Then, if it does the same thing there, I know it's hardware...

Have you tried re-installing the mouse software?

Didn't know there was mouse software as such - just a generic usb driver.

This behaviour happens in all usb ports. :(

Ah well, onto the OS install :(

Well, I reinstalled xp64, no fix. So now it's stuttering in xp32, and a fresh install of xp64. So I bought a new mouse. :)

I got the logitech MX400 as I didn't have that much cash (friend kept telling me to get a g7). Apart from getting used to the strange acceleration things, it's fine so far :)
