Randomly my mouse will stop responding. The cursor moves but I can't click anything. In fact it de-selects the open window or web page on Firefox

Sometimes as it occurs, the cursor changes to the one when you've pressed in the roller and then it stops responding to clicks

If I push CTRL ALT DEL it then cancel it gives me some time of it working properly again but then after a few minutes it happens again.

I've scanned for viruses on McAfee and am running Spybot, and all up to date and immunised etc.

It's on Vista and it's a wireless mouse and keyboard HP pavillion slimline, any ideas? Anyone have the same problems? A google search and much reading turned no solutions up

I'm tearing my hair out here

Sounds familar - I get this at work some times. It only happens when there's a program causing excessive system load though. Ctrl-alt-del to the "do you want to lock?" window and the mouse is smooth as. Hit esc and it's frozen again. Once I kill off the offending task and it's fine.

Next time it happens, check that there's not some task gone into CPU overdrive!
