Mouse Sticking.

Hi,

I did think about putting this in General Hardware, but I'm convinced that this is a software issue so thought it would be best created in here.

For a while now, I've had a strange issue where the mouse pointer (in games or on desktop) will, seemingly at random, momentarily stick / freeze before coming free again. It doesn't skip movement, but rather sticks at any given spot. At first I was sure it was a faulty cable on my G400, so I bought a new mouse (Mionix Castor) - but the problem still persists. At least now I have a spare mouse anyway.

If I can capture this on video then I'll post one here, though you never know when it'll happen. Sometimes it seems I've finally got rid of the problem only for it to come back once again.

So far, I've tried updating Windows 10, running many virus / malware scans (Ad-Aware / Spybot / Microsoft Security Essentials / Malware Bytes / CCleaner and so on...).

It's got to the stage that perhaps only a clean install of Windows 10 will resolve it, though iirc it did start towards the end of my last Win 7 installation.

Can anyone please share any knowledge that might help me out?

Ta. :)

^^ I originally wondered that, though I've used this mat and desk for months/years now.

One thing I did try was to check/update the mobo bios, but I couldn't get it to recognize the update from my memory stick when attempting Q-flash.

I guess you are not on a laptop - otherwise can get events from the touch pad/stick too unless you explictly disbale them when usb mouse plugged in

you did not seem to mention the word driver in your post, but have you checked what win 10 might have installed , and then re-installed what manufacturer recommends ? (although it seems unlikely bad driver would have impacted both your mice)

No, I'm using a desktop. :)

I checked to see if there were more updates, which there was, though strangely enough it repeatedly said that another download was available - regardless of how many times I updated Windows. Anyway, I'm now on (14.xxx) something now (can't recall the full number).

I've been experiencing similar issues on my new Dell XPS15 laptop recently (in conjunction with a WD15 USB-C dock) and the solution was to installl the latest USB 3 controller drivers.
