Mouse temporary freeze + "device disconnected" noise

Title about sums it up.

Mouse will not respond for a second or so and sometimes it is accompanied by a "usb device unplugged" noise.

Occurs maybe every 5-10 mins and doesn't seem to be possible to replicate it on demand by waggling mouse cable about on purpose.

Can't say if it happens to my keyboard but I've not noticed key failures when typing.

So any thoughts.

Mouse?

USB ports?

Both?

I had this exact problem and it was the mouse. Had to get a new one. Have you got a spare lying around you could use to test?

I have an idle MMO mouse I hated 5 mins after unboxing and never used again, I'll suffer it for an evening and see if that fixes things.

Well I remember now why I hated that MMO mouse.

Turns out the G400 is notorious for a cable connection designed by a monkey which it why a new version was released with a reinforced point where the cable enters the mouse.

The MMO mouse (G600) actually has a rather nice braided cable.

I'm feeling temped to get out the screwdrivers and hack the nice cable into the G400...

try it on another machine

Removed braided cable from G700 and put it into G400

Had to swap two wires first because for whatever reason the pin order for the 5 wires is different between them. No big deal to rearrange.

Mouse is working and has had no hangups yet.
