I currently play quite abit of Counterstrike and other FPS games and currently do not have any mouse mat. I play on a large smooth desk and have never had any issues playing. Just wondering if adding a mousemat would actually improve my game or not. Last time i used a mousemat was years ago and as I move the mouse a lot sometimes during play the mouse would go off the end of the mat and screw up my aiming.

Not played on one in years but the main problems were they were too small and also would slide about on my desk mid game

Wondering if they have come on much in recent years, I also hear good things about these icemats? Dont know if they are rated much around here.

Would a decent mat improve my gaming experience is the question here, if so do recommend me a few, no budget.

If you like playing on the desk, then you'll want a hard mat. Soft mat have a different feel and are a bit tacky.

Avoid the Roccat Sota (it's a POS that just warp after a while). I'm good with the SteelSeries 4HD (or 9HD, the bigger version). Some hard mats have a smooth glossy surface (IceMat) , some have a more rough textured surface (4HD).

I've used the BoogieBug XL (nice, cushiony and very big, too much static friction), Roccat Sota (good glide, but then started becoming bumpy and unusuable), and 4HD (low static, friction, medium dynamic friction :)). I have the boogie under the 4HD, which is a nice combination.

One I'd like to try is the SteelSeries S&S. Aluminium pads for me I think would have too low friction and too out of control.

Had a look into the Steelseries S&S and it looks good, although the SP looks the be the better one due to a better sticky surface instead of the spray on glue of the S&S.
