Hey guys, I am buying a Lenovo E520 and will be using it primarily for gaming. For this, I want to buy a decent mouse and mousepad. These will stay put on my desk so can be full size. The MX518 seems to be the best mouse for the price (I have a pretty low budget for these peripherals so the MX518 is at the high-end of the price I am willing to pay). Two questions:
  1. Is the MX518 the best mouse for the price, and
  2. What is the best mousepad to pair with it?
I have heard that the Steelseries QcK+ or BoogieBug AimB.Pad XL good, although is that the best for its price?

I'm not a gamer but i can recommend the BoogieBug - i've got another one on order with OcUK as i like them so much.

Loads of space, good quality surface and it can't move around as your keyboad is sat on most of it.

As for the mouse - i think most people will recommend the MX518 in that price bracket for gaming (even if it is pig-ugly ;)).

The MX518 is very highly regarded by gamers. Im using a boogie bug mat in conjunction with a logitech G500, as plec says, it's massive and will easily fit your keyboard and mouse, i have a G15 keyboard, which is quite long, no space issues.

My old ocz mat beside the boogie for comparison.

I'm unsure about cloth pads - I have used cheap ones and they are dreadful. Would a better mouse and a proper 'gaming' cloth mousepad solve these issues? At the moment I am using an IntelliMouse optical 1.1 on a wood desk, which is really sup-par. The mouse itself is ok, but is rubbish for gaming (Mainly FPSs)

Oh another quick question - If I got the BoogieBug pad, is it any good as a base for laptops or would its insulating properties make the laptop overheat?

I wouldn't personally use a laptop on it (or any other cloth mats) for a prolonged period of time. You can get a glass base for laptops for around a pound.

I went for the Boogie Bug AimB because I have a glass desk and for it's size. Also using an MX518 on it, but I don't game so can't comment on gaming use but it glides just fine.

The 518 is great for the money yes...

IMO, the 518 doesnt need a mouse pad. Whatever mouse pad you go for 1 day it will let you down in some way, where your desk (unless made glass) wouldn't have.

It also doesn't matter how big your mouse pad is you will still, need to pickup the mouse to do manouvers in fps games when you are in a tight spot and your running out of space.

I think that based on reviews and what has been said here, I am going to get the QcK (Not the +, I don't think I really need all that extra space). Do you know if there is any difference between the QcK and the QcK+ except size, and do you know when the QcK will be back in stock?

I have the mx518 and Qck, great budget combo. I don't think there is any difference between the two SteelSeries mats apart from the size.
