I want to move my base unit to another room. In the past I've invested in some quiet components (low noise case, quiet case fans, quiet CPU cooler, quiet PSU) but the noise is still a bit distracting. It's quiet by comparison to other PCs, I'm just a bit sensitive to noise.

I've been searching the internet for solutions and KVM switches (with audio) seem promising but I understand that they are limited to approx 20-25 feet distance. There's hardware available to extend this range using Cat5 but the price for the kit is a bit steep for me, although I have Cat5 already in place.

I have a distance of about 50 ft to cover. What is the most cost-effective way to separate my keyboard, monitor, mouse and audio from my base unit by this distance?

I am using USB keyboard and mouse. VGA monitor connection (1600x1200 off an Nvidia GTS 450) and standard audio plug.

you could use a wireless HDMI but you would need a wireless keyboard mouse, and you would need to check the range on them.
