Move CPU overclock to new motherboard?

I'm currently using an Abit IX38 QuadGT motherboard with a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600. The CPU is overclocked to 3.2ghz, but this is set on the motherboard. Is it possible to transfer the overclock so if i bought a new motherboard i wouldn't lose the overclock?

thanks

If it was the same board and you could save profiles to a usb or something then yes, however its not even 100% foolproof on that as the exact same board may need different voltage tweaks etc.. to be stable due to different tolerances of individual parts. Also BIOS versions and board revisions play a part there as well. So the short answer, as the board you're likely going to change to won't be the same board, is no.

If you remember some of the settings it will at least give you a good idea of what to enter into the new board, but you may need to tweak slightly to regain stability.

You would probably be better off redoing the overclock manually, the new board could hold a higher overclock at the same volts, or in some way offer extra performance that might be missed if you just bash in the values and save.

I don't think I will bother then. I bought the pc already overclocked from here, I didn't do it myself, and it was saved as a profile. I've got to buy a new hard drive so I'm doing a clean install, I thought it would be a good opportunity to also upgrade the motherboard and ram. But if I lose my cpu overclock I don't think it's worth it.

sata III instead of sata II and so i can have 8gb of ddr3 RAM instead of 4gb ddr2. There was no real reason just seemed like a good time to do it.

did you have a board in mind? it's probably worth holding out for a cpu/mobo/ram upgrade. I recently done a £300 upgrade spec on here for a brilliant (in my opinion) system, might be worth a thought in the future?

yea because my CPU is at 3.2ghz and to get a new CPU that is as good is relatively expensive from what i've seen. No i didn't have a board in mind.

The main reason i was looking at a motherboard was because i thought about upgrading from 4gb of RAM to 8gb but my motherboard only supports ddr 2, then i started looking at motherboards as well.

For most operations you'd never be able to see the difference. Improved access times and reduced latency is where SSDs shine and sata 3 bandwidth has no impact on that whatsoever.

It depends on the games you play, IIRC somebody on this forum recently went from a Q6600 at 3.5ghz to a i5 3570K and did some benchmarks, the jump from the OC'd Q6600 to the stock 3570K was bigger than the jump from the Q6600 stock to OC.

Of course its a mute point if your GPU limited but in games that aren't the is a definite advantage to the upgrade.

Ok thanks everyone. I think I will just leave it for now. To be honest don't really play a lot of games on it anymore. Just seemed like a good time to do it. I'm still getting a ssd and a fresh install so should be good.

What do you guys think of something like this?

Intel core I5 3450 3.1ghz
Gigabyte ga-h61m-s2pv
8gb ddr3 ram 1333mhz

For £249

My main reason for upgrading was because I'm going to reinstall windows it seemed like a good time to do it and I don't won't to upgrade in a couple of years and have to reinstall windows again. Sort of future proofing it for another 4 years.

After looking at the motherboard it's not very good so I won't be getting that. Any bundles you would recommend about £250-£300
