Move from Philips bdm4065 to Samsung UE43KS7500?

Given up on vr. I'll wait for higher resolution options.

As an alternative was considering an hdr tele in similar size.

Have been looking at the £400 options, but may just go something with 10 bit panel, if this is a good idea anyway.

How would these compare to my current monitor?

Edit :cheaper options were Samsung 6020 or 6400.

Perhaps some other decent alternatives?

Considering this is used for lots of gaming and lots of photo editing.

I just know my current monitor is pretty good for contrast and fairly decent for srgb coverage, so would it be a sideways move or upgrade?

I know I mentioned 6020 and 6400, but actually leaning towards the curved, so 7500 or 6500
 
ERGH!

So got a 43ku6500.

Actually pretty nice. Alleviates some issues I had with some things, such as minor banding and some other white issue which is hard to explain.

Could have simplified my setup a bit.

BUT - it only supports HDR over HDMI 1! Ok, so put the ps4 on hdmi and PC on HDMI 2 - but its only limited to YCbCr420 and not full as it is on one.

Not easy info to find about it only supporting better colour only over HDMI 1 - but the freaking question really is - WHY?

Another downside is it does not seem to want to support custom resolutions -i.e. a 21:9 equiv. Not major, but disappointing.

This is why I hate buying screens. There is always something. ALWAYS!
 
Yeah the KU6400/6500 is an 8-bit panel anyhow, so won't be full HDR. It'll be a bit better than normal, but it's the 2016 SUHD screens only it seems that do the full lot (HDR Premium).

I knew that - I was fine with it being 8 bit. The issue is only allowing even that over only one HDMI port...
 
I'm only aware of one 10-bit panel near this price range, and that's the Sony XD80 43", which has been as low as around the £500 mark... may come up cheaper in Black Friday deals though. Everything else is 8-bit as far as I'm aware, unless you pay A LOT more money. That said, I've read a wide colour gamut on an 8-bit panel can go a long way. It's not as simple as 10-bit trouncing 8-bit no matter what.
 
Again, not the issue.

I knew it wasn't 10 bit. Its that it only offers full 8 bit on only 1 of it's hdmi ports.

So, you want the best out of PC and console on this? You have to keep swapping cables!

Or... you can just spend £300 plus on a suitable receiver - and then not easily be able to set picture parameters based merely on input.
 
Yep, you only find things like this out AFTER you buy it.

Review sites are rubbish at stuff like this...it's like the gazzillion reviews for the dell xps 13 laptop. Not one mentions the annoying feedback noise from the realtek audio card (driver issue). It's not as though their review model was immune as it happens on 100% of them.

I think most follow a script, colour accuracy, motion, audio, apps....that's it

Its being collected tomorrow and replaced it with an Sony 43 inch XD8099.

The curve on the Samsung was too wide to be of much use, so don't mind picking up a flat...

anyway, this one seems great. Decent input lag, better colour than the Samsung, allows custom resolutions, less smearing/ghosting.

Down sides: bloody heavy, interface not quite as nice, not as quick to set up, bit more banding on grey than Samsung.

Though on the banding front, I noticed it on RGB earlier, so changed to ycbcr 4:4:4, and am sure I remember it going away. However, I calibrated it earlier and not sure if that the cause, but if I am on ycbcr 4:4:4, I see the banding now.

Still finding my way around it a bit.

Brings new life to some of my photos... and others that I used to think looked good, now look oversaturated.

So are you finding the XD80 much better than the ks7000? Its a helluva lot cheaper. price range of the ku6400 series .

How does the sony standard compare with UHD premium standard? does it achieve rec 2020?

Hows the color banding? the input lag?

I had a Samsung ku6500, not 7500.

The Samsung had a bit less input lag, but the Sony is still good in that department. Can't say I notice it being any worse.

Didn't spend a lot of time trying different underwear sources once I discovered was limited on inputs. From the little I tried, it was probably a bit easier to get really vibrant, bright images on the Samsung, but that looked really unnatural.

No screens do very well with rec2020 I don't think.

Dispcalgui reported my srgb coverage at 100%. Dci-p3 at 93%. Think that's pretty good. Adobe rgb was 80% I think.

The banding I have seen was grey scale banding. Not sure if anything can do about it.
 
Ah, bugger. Noticed an issue with the backlight. Right quarter of screen is slightly brighter than rest.

It's not terrible, but bad enough to notice when I wasn't looking for it.

Now can't unsee it. Sigh.
