Hi folks,

I imagine this must be possible but how easy is it to remove an SSD with win7 installed on it from machine A to machine B? The idea is that i hope to be able to just remove it from A and plug it into the new mobo/machine and be up-and-running as if nothing changed.

Is this possible? Will I need to adjust anything to get the OS to boot properly?

If I was going to be moving the OS to a different HDD/SSD I'd install fresh of course but I'm not changing the drive, so this hopefully is doable.

Cheers,

If your moving to a different motherboard then I would do a clean install. However you could try uninstalling the Chipset drivers from within device manager then shutting down and installing in the other PC.

So will uninstalling the chipset driver be the only necessary step before moving it across? If so this sounds absolutely fine. The idea of having to reinstall and set up everything again is horrific (my setup here is very complicated...) and the idea of an image doesn't appeal as I've had bad experiences with that in the past.

cheers

I doubt anyone can guarantee it'll work properly without a full reinstall, it's always best to do a clean install when moving to a new motherboard etc.

from my experience

had i7 920 X58 system moving to i5 2500K Z68 system

before swap on old machine
did a sysprep to reset driver etc -> switch off
then swapped sysem stuff around and rebuilt as new Z68 sytem
booted into windows installed new drivers for new system

Stuff pretty much all worked with one exception , I now got weird failures when copying to /from USB if the file size was large (3G or more)
Result ... 6 months later I just ended up doing a fresh install and did a lot of reg merging

Guys, thanks for the advice.

Sounds like the only proper thing is to do a fresh install and suffer the pain of many hours of reinstallations of custom things... painful!!

Thanks again for the advice.
