Hi all,

Just moved one of my PCs to a new P600S (I know it's sad, but the white matches my room better..... :cry:)

Thought I'd done everything but getting a dead PC on loading, so just trying to work out what I've missed.

- checked have MB power connectors (both of them) connected to PC
- checked the power switch and reset switch pretty sure they're in the right pins
-GPU has both connectors attached
Anything else obvious that'd cause complete failure to light up etc?

I'd imagine if I'd messed something up with sata cables, etc it'd at least start fans, light up before beeping/failing...

There just seemed to be a single sata connector that I think connects all the case switches etc to the motherboard.

Any ideas welcome!

Hmm, thought I was being careful re standoffs - interesting re overtightening - how would this cause a problem out of interest?

Yes hoping to avoid the full take out of motherboard, so will do as last resort, but may need to (I was so proud of my meat cabling..... :D)

Just wondering if anyone else has a Phanteks P600?

Just looked at the manual and it suggests the SATA cable is to power the fans.

It isn't really very clear about where the front I/O cables come from, are they preconnected to somewhere or do I need to dig around for another connector somewhere?
 
No, sorry not being clear - there's a power switch cable that pops out of the knot of cables that the case comes with, so I've plugged that into the motherboard, but I'm not sure where the other end goes - I assume it just runs to the physical case switch itself, so nothing else needed, but just checking I'm not doing something stupid like not plugging in the other side?

Other thought is I could try shorting the two power switch pins and seeing if that causes any life.

That's interesting! Can't say I overtightened (I use an electrical screwdriver with fixed torque), but useful to know, wouldn't have thought of that. Will double check nonetheless!
 
Ok what the actual heck....

Started taking this back to bare bones piece by piece.

  • Took out the graphics card, still not booting
  • Took out the SATA connectors and started booting
  • But smoke started appearing out of the case!!!!!
Took off the back panel and it's one of the wires that leads from the motherboard sys_fan port to the fan controller and one of these wires is just melting when the PC is turned on.

Yes, has a SATA connector for the 12V supply on one side and a motherboard fan connector.

Brand new case, but seriously - I thought the P600S was meant to be a goodun! Surely it's me being daft somewhere!
 
Ok I've deliberately waited until I'm just about to go to bed as I'm so embarrassed, I dread to think what a plonker you'll think I am.....

I just spotted that one of the PSU cables I mixed up from a new case I bought for a separate PSU...... :eek::eek::eek:

Taking it out and using the correct cable worked perfectly and after a bit of electrical tape, everything (very surprisingly!) seems to be working perfectly....!

I think I got very, very lucky with that one, but teaches me to rebuild my PC whilst watching Ozark.....:D

Just thought I'd admit that for anyone else as a warning!

That said, someone needs to sort these PSU suppliers out - how they can be the only PC component with no standard for their connectors is beyond me - shouldn't really be possible to plug in the 'wrong cable' and cause smoking!
 
Yes, still very lucky to not have caused more expensive damage....!

PC working great, running super quiet and cool, love this case so far....!
 
Yes, think I'm going to just order a replacement four pin wire to go from fan hub to MB - after my last experience, I'm assuming these are standard.............????
