My brother has just moved house and got his ADSL reactivated at the new address. So far he has been unable to connect though. The exact details are a bit vague at the minute as I haven't been able to go and have a look for myself yet, but I thought I'd post what I know to see if anyone can help.
He uses a Netgear DG834G router and BT as his ISP. The DSL light is lit on the modem, but when it tries to connect the router web page status window says 'LCP is unable to authenticate' apparently. It seems that it does indeed have a link, as the correct line speeds are shown, but the router won't complete the log on process.
The encapsulation setting was set to PPPoA, which I thought should be set to PPPoE? Neither setting made a difference though. Any thoughts on anything else to try? BT have checked for faults on the line, and they can't make their minds up as to whether there is one or not, one minute they say there is, the next they say it's fixed.
