Movement problems in original UT

I thought I would install the good old game UT (Unreal Tournament) and start playing it again because its a fun game. I have been getting problems when playing it though. When I move the mouse in-game, the movement is all over the place. I have changed the sensitivity, resolution, tried opengl, direct 3d etc. to no avail. I have even downloaded the latest Nvidia drivers. Any suggestions?

Thank you :)

Thanks for the quick reply :)

Its jittery. Im moving along fine and then it might jump forwards but the main problem is that when I am turning, the same thing happens and it moves me in the wrong direction and the game becomes unplayable.

I have tried another mouse and that didn't help either. My computer specs are as follows: amd 3800x2, 2gb pc4000, 7800gtx. Nothing is overclocked.

Thank you :)

Ah so it's unrelated to the mouse, even just using the keys jerks about?

I think there's a line in the config that relates to CPU speed, hold on.

edit: modify the starting shortcut to end -cpuspeed 2400 or -cpuspeed=2400 not sure which is right. That's as in 2400Mhz your CPU is at.

I came to these forums to try and fix the same problems described here. Tried all the suggestions and none of them stopped the problem completely. Then I thought why not try OpenGL as the game was only detecting D3D, so I downloaded the updated OpenGL file from UT.com and put the file in and updated the unrealtournament.ini file, ran the game in safe mode selected show all driver types and selected OpenGL.....and hey presto the game runs as it did on Windows 98. I have a 1.7Ghz Centrino laptop running Windows XP Pro. Hope this helps.

edit#5654:
These people seem to have fixed it: linky

Thanks for the help everyone :)

The link to the other forum has some good stuff on there, so I am going to read through it and try the stuff from there.

Thank you :)

Thanks for the continued help :)

I edited my unreal tournament.ini file opengl settings but the game is still running too fast, even though the in-game frame rate doesn't go higher than 60fps.

How do I limit it to 1 core and add the cpu speed?

Thank you :)

Do you know how to edit shortcuts? Do that for the -cpuspeed=2400 command.

To set affinity, start the program. Bring up the task manager, right click on the program from the processes tab, set affinity to only one CPU (one tick in box). You may have to do this every time you start the program.

if you use a program like curerom it'll build a new .exe for you with 1 core only etc, saves u having to edit anything or change it everytime you play.

Im never without my UT Games.

I have never had a problem with Dual core ( 3800, 4400 and C2D all play it fine, and even the HT P4 does it too )

The one problem I have had however, is that with fast CPUs the whole game is a little laggy, or at least the mouse responce is anyway.

Run it on say a 1Ghz PC or lower and its peachy, but half-decent 64Bit PCs and its a bit iffy... I found that one weird.
