Every now and again somebody in here asks about movie posters and after quite a bit of time I'm finally drawing my website together. It's basically a complete guide to Movie Poster Collecting. i.e. where to buy, how to store & display them, watching out for fakes etc..

So if any of it takes your interest then take a look:
www.moviepostercollector.co.uk

I'd greatly appreciate any response in terms of any information that you think is missing, especially if you have no idea about collecting movie posters.
I've most recently added the "My Collection" section here:

Hopefully much more to come there!

Wheres a good place to get cheap frames, im talking under £20, a frame makes a poster 1000% better imo

That's something that has come up before. All the framing I have done is custom framing, mainly because it ensures the poster is properly protected, but also because you can pick the right style to match the posters. The cheapest you can do that for a 1-sheet is around £70, but for UV-glass and conservation materials it's more like £120.

But the main problem with a cheap frame is that I don't think you can get them "off the shelf" that big. I know of one site that sells ready made frames for UK Quads, but even those are around £75 a pop. :(

Great stuff raider :D

I've just got myself a UK Quad Teaser for Batman Begins which I'm in the process of getting framed.

Near where I live we have a collectable store that specialises in the DC/Warner Bros/Hanna Barbara cartoon art They will do a custom framing for you for between £40-£120 depending on what you want doing.

I'm getting mine backed & with Gallery quality UV reflective glass no full price as yet but they reckon it will be around the £70-£80 mark.

Will let you know what it's like when it arrives & I pick it up.

Just waiting as well for my 2 Underworld posters to arrive...US 1 sheet from the first movie & Far East Edition Evolution 1 sheet (I'm thinking it will be a fake but the picture is much better than the US & UK Quad so I'm happy to take the gamble...plus it was only £10 delivered :D) & my Nightmare before Christmas US 1 Sheet & Corpse Bride US 1 Sheet to finish my current collection then I'll start shopping again :D

It's all too addictive this stuff ;)

Well done - always wanted to get a collection going of movie posters - but will have to wait until I win the lotto so I have somewhere suitable for them all (my projection room ) lol

I used to have a huge collection at one time, but moving around all the time they got lost or battered etc but always like to see a decent well thought about piece of artwork

Thanks for this post I have found your website very interesting and this has got me thinking about a few posters that I would love to get. After having a search for one of my all time favourite films (Fifth Element) it seems the posters are at a reasonable price.

Raider,

Need to ask you a quick question regarding buying some more posters...

Have you ever used Moviemarket.co.uk??

They have a couple of posters I'm after adding to my increasing collection & just wondered if they can be trusted for originals?
Their prices seem too good so I'm not convinced but any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hi there.

Well I've never used them personally. All I know is that they don't exclusively sell original posters. They seem to sell a few originals (modern and vintage) along with quite a bit of other stuff. However they do seem a reasonable source for original modern posters. Better than risking on Ebay probably :p

With older posters it's a LOT easier to spot a fake, but with modern posters where they're all rolled and glossy, it's quite hard. There are ways and means, but you'd have to know what an original looked like before making the comparison!

Which posters were you looking at?

Thanks for that Raider :)

The one's I've been looking at are

Superman Returns advance one Sheet

Underworld Advance one sheet

Underworld: Evolution double-sided regular

The thing is the Superman one is giving me the most concern...it looks exactly the same as the one's currently doing the rounds on Ebay but they are selling for nearly twice as much on there compared to Moviemarket which is why alarm bells started ringing.
But then I'm not sure if it's just the fact that sellers on Ebay are trying to rip you off a bit more.

What do you think?
Legit or not?

Thanks again it's much appreciated.

Neil
