Movie transcoding - Audio seems unbalanced

Simply put, I've begun the process of ripping my blurays and transcoding them. The first film I attempted last night has come out with a brilliant picture quality, yet the audio seems wrong.
Watching from the bluray itself, the levels are much more even.
Specifically, the voices seem to be VERY quiet, while everything else seems proportionate. Obviously, being barely able to hear a film is hardly ideal!

In terms of software, I'm using Ripbot264 for the coding, converting the raw, mux'd .m2ts to divx format with 360kbps 5.1 audio. Any ideas on the nature of the problem?

I'm a total newb to the media transcoding and ripping world by the way, so I might well be missing something blindingly obvious

Are you transcoding the audio from the original source ?

OR

Are you just passing a AC3 audio track thru and muxing it with the video ?

Option 2 will leave the audio the same as the source

Im using anydvd HD to copy the bluray to my hard drive. Only doing this as I read it reduces the chances of errors. I can't get specifics at the moment, but if I remember rightly, Ripbot encodes the audio and video seperate.

Like I said, very new to this so I hope thats answered your question!
