I know there has been DVD Players that have 'Upscaling' technology that bascailly ups the picture quality for HD TV's. Im not 100% on how the hardware does this but I was just wondering if there was some sort of software that is able to up the picture quality of a movie file (.avi, .mov etc) so I can stream it downstairs to my HD tele using my 360 and not look so blurry.

Does this exist or even possible to do?

Thanks.

Home Cinema & Hi-Fi section might be more appropriate...

However, of course you can't generate what's not there - but you can certainly improve picture quality for things like DVDs.

ffdshow is able to do this.

I'd assume that the Xbox 360 would upscale the video in accordance with whatever connection you're using on the TV anyway. Doing it on the PC first would just be duplicating the work that you're Xbox would do on the fly.

Would this not depend on the resolution of the TV also, I thought even in HD this was not a massive issue with AVI in a decent standard compression?
