I am currently mid way through executing a conversion of my garage to a media room. Unfortunately, the internet connection there will be incredibly weak because the modem/router is located at the other side of the house.
To give you an idea of things here is an example of the drop in signal. I currently use Virgin media's Superhub modem/router and am on 60mb broadband. When i am in the newly converted media room i struggle to connect and when i do it is about a tenth of my speed in comparison to any computers located near the router.
I would like to know if it is possible to move the superhub. Every room use to be wired with a Virgin media box though the extra TVs were canceled in every room except the room with the superhub in. I am not bothered about TV as it hasn't been switched on in years.
My questions are:
Is it possible to move the router to another room and have Virgin Media change which Room the signals are active?
What are the costs of this if any, due to perhaps maintenance needed to adjust powerlevels?
Is there any other solutions? (The electrics of the garage are separate from the house if it is relevant to any suggested solutions)
With the distance between the current placement of the superhub and the media room, i am skeptical of the reliability of wireless extenders and I don't have the luxury of using super long Ethernet cables. I have telephoned Virgin Media and they just kept forwarding me to different department help centers which seemed to think it was another departments expertise. I hope that if i come to them with my own solution in mind (or yours if you suggest one) i can receive better help.
Thanks
