Is it necessary to drain my wc loop to move it by car? I think the worst that can happen is it leaks a bit, but that's not a disaster when it's not even plugged in. Are there any other problems that I haven't thought of?

The entire system should be sealed assuming you have a Lid on your res?

the EK kits have rubber o-rings on the lids so these are watertight, im assuming here but surely any good res will be filly sealed.

Id think you would be fine, you may end up with some bubbles in your res however if the water is splashing around but would disappear quickly once restarted as the pressure will force them out.

Essentially, no you should be fine.

If I had one and it was sealed I wouldn't worry. I would make sure it's secure though and would drive really cautiously over bumps.

I've just moved my two watercooled PCs in the car from one house to another. All I do is the same as any normally cooled PC - put it back in its original packaging and box and drive smoothly.

Check on unpacking with a torch for any little leaks or dribbles. Assuming there aren't any, you'll be good to go. The most that may happen is you have shaken some out the res, or maybe a bump has let a little dribble (ooh-er) go from one of the barbs/fittings.

if your WC would leak cos of car transport..... well it was not put properly together. I am moving my pc around all the time no problems. And thats with external radiator :D

I move mine around at least 4 times a month, but I always have a niggling feeling in the back of my head that one of the compression fittings might come loose if I hit a pothole or something.

If your not 100% convinced, just drain it....fluid is like £15 (Well mayhems is anyway).

thanks all for the input, i feel much more confident about it now. The reservoir is an EK combo res for the dcp 4, i think it's pretty well sealed.

Moved my watercooled case across the city I live in just after I built it, no problems. Though I did re-run the leak test when I had got it into my place from my dads just to be on the safe side.
