If you really can't afford to do a fresh install, you can do a repair install (http://www.maximumpc.com/article/how-tos/how_repair_faulty_windows_installation_without_reformatting Option 2) on the new hardware, which will reset and reconfigure Windows. You can have problems with stuff left behind but it could be worth a try.
