Moving away from onbaord sound

What is going to be the best card to go to i only use it for gaming no music or movies and I only use my 5.1 headphones as well looking to spend £30, maybe a bit higher if it's worth it.

What OS are you running? This will partially affect whether or not Creative is an option open to you.

I myself have the Xtreme music as the best price / performance combo of the X-Fi cards and now that it's working properly once again (I went to Vista x64 from XP Pro) I like the sound of it very much. I know it's called "Music" but it's an all-round card, just as much for games if not more than the "Xtreme Gamer".

The Creative drivers for Vista have sorted themselves out then?

Sort of. With a combination of Alchemy and them finally releasing a CD containing proper Vista drivers (which you either have to pay for to order or can download on a torrent) they've sorted EAX in games that use Direct Sound and they've added a console to tweak EAX, crystalisation, DTS, etc etc. There's no issue with OpenAL games afaik.

i'm on xp at the moment, and if I do go vista i'll be dual booting for games any way.

Well picked the extreme music, was delivered today so will try it out tonight, I may have to update my headphones as they are the old medusa 5.1 had em for about 3 years now.

Are their any better ones out would like to stick with 5.1
