Anyone moved a BT line outside the house to another location? Got it coming into one room and want to move it approx 20ft down the wall into another room. Wireless and internal extensions would be a pain due to walls etc.

Am i allowed to move it?

No you aren't. The line from the exchange right up to the test socket is BT property. If you did move it, and it wouldn't be that tricky to do provided you use decent cable, BT could throw a wobbly with you. Why not run an extension from the master socket using decent twisted pair BT spec cable outside the house and terminate with a decent socket? More or less the same thing.

Will an extension be ok to run a Sky router from? I thought you had to connect to the master socket only?

You can run the Sky router off an extension but as I previously stated make sure you use decent cable (ie not the flat stuff from the pound shop, but the proper BT type CW1308 twisted pair) or you may find you increase your line noise and reduce your connection speed.

So, as long as i get CW1308B Phone Cable Int/Ext Low Smoke Black + Earth per metre
all should be ok.

Good, reliable place to buy it?

Still going to want to move the cable from one room to another. Its ok to put in an extention from the master socket to another BT socket?

Aslong as its via the front of the master socket its fine (you may need filters as appropriate to split voice/data). The backplate and anything "downstream" of it should not be touched - this is actually due to a liability issue rather than "its illegal" or BT being bossy.

Ok, so i can leave the socket alone, take the front off, wire directly to that and run the cable outside and into another room and into another socket?

Router will still receive internet from the extension?

And use this cable: CW1308B Phone Cable Int/Ext

Yes exactly right. Use a push down tool (or something suitable) and wire a pair of wires to Pins 2 and 5 and then do the same at the other end of the extension, making sure that you keep the same colour/stripe at each end.

Not sure what the B on the end of 1308 is though

You can get 2 pair as well. CW1308 will be the global specification for the type of cable and could cover 1 pair right up to, as you say 50 pairs for actual BT infrastructure cabling.

Something like this product

OcUK don't sell this stuff so should be OK to post a link to it on the auction site. Oh and white seems to be cheaper than black.

I ordered 10mtrs of 10 pair. That should be ok?

Anyone recommend a good diagram to wire it up both ends? Ta

Well if you've bought it already then I suppose you are stuck with it. Shame you didn't check out eBay first though.
