Moving downloaded games from an old PS3 to a new one.

Hi there

I've just gotten myself a new 320gb PS3 to replace my old one.

Can I delete the downloaded game Infamous ( one of the free PSN give way games ) from the old PS3 then download it again once I sign into my PSN account on the new 320gb PS3?

I am intending to use the “Data Transfer Utility” to transfer the all my game saves and any other data but I thought trying to transfer a 8gb game like Infamous may take an eternity move over.

Not used the Disk Transfer Utility but if its anything like the backup function it will take AGES to transfer...

Agree to remove non-essential downloads to reduce size - can redownload Infamous using the Download List that can be either found in the PSN store (one of the icons in the top right) or someone under the Account Management option in the XMB

Remember to sync trophies and potentially backup game saves (or anything else important to you) to USB stick to cover yourself...

Transferring from PS3 to PS3 is a lot quicker Ps3ud0 as it doesn't compress/encrypt the data.

Not used it myself so didnt know, never had the privilege of owning two consoles at the same time, as usually the seconds a replacement for the borked first

Perhaps then the transfer of an 8Gb install would work out to be much faster than redownloading it all again? Guess its more to do with the perceived inconvenience than the actual time taken itself...

Neither have i, however i did have the privilege of parents investing in a 80gb and being nice enough to swap it for my 40gb as i needed the space

With that said, the 80gb is full now too... hmmm, upgrade HDD or nice shiny Slim.

. Pretty sure you said ages ago the matt effect wouldnt work with your other equipment?!? Love mine over the Phat - though I did do the swap the day it was released so got a very nice deal...

And theres me having to manage a full 320Gb HDD all the time :/. Damn you PlayTV...

My reasoning behind downloading Infamous again is that it can be done in stages when its convenient, meaning I don't have to wait hours for the file transfer to take place using the Data Transfer Utility.
