Second half of a second decade of 21st century. I'm trying to move photos and videos from backup of my dead old iPhone to my new android phone and apparently, there is still no way to do so without all the photos changing their creation date to "today". Moving files via Android Transfer changes their date, adding files to google drive changes their date, syncing them via android beam changes date.

Surely I'm not the first one to attempt it and it must be a simple case of google skills failing me - there must be some documented way to preserve original date on pictures and have them moved and displayed on the phone in such a way that they would appear on original 2012-2014 timeline in Photos and not today, right?

I can't answer your question but a workaround (that may or may not be practical for you) is SKTimeStamp changer which is useful for changing the date and time but needs to be done within Windows.

I'd upload them to something like Dropbox, unfortunately Apple don't make it easy to migrate from iPhones. It's a bit of a cheek really when they have a 'Move to iOS' app in Google Play, they would never allow it the other way round.

Hmm, the creation date of the photo will change yes, but the photos actual EXIF creation date should not? I recently moved my wife from her useless iPhone 4 to an OP3. I just copied over all the images to a PC, and then copied them into an iPhone4 Archive folder on her OP3. Copying across will redo the creation date, but not the actual photos internal creation date if you get what I mean.

QuickPic (signed android gallery app) then picked up the images and sorted them in order of creation date via it's EXIF info. I agree it is a very messy process though.
