Just after feedback from people who have done this? I presume I'll end up saving some cash moving from BT but I want to make sure the hassle is worth it, I'm quite happy with the service I get from BT.

Go to Plusnet.

Did the same move myself, was happy with BT, just prefered the Plusnet pricing :D

Never had anything good to say about TalkTalk.

Thanks, so that's one +1, anyone else?

@bledd - What kit do they give you for 36-76mbps fibre? Is it all in one? If not can you configure their unit to act as modem only?

Plusnet all the way, their prices are excellent. Even beginning to offer TV for those who are interested.

Equipment is a Technicolor router and the Huawei modem. Both work fine but not the best if you are into tinkering with lots of things. You are able to have your own router as well if that's what you want, with or without the modem.

Plusnet.

I find talktalk are ok if it works without issue from day one. If you ever get a problem it never seems to get fixed.

Intend to leave BT next June once my deal ends. I did contact them about their high prices and they were nice enough to reduce my bill for the remainder of my deal.

But I currently pay £27 a month (was £34) for BT TV, 76mb infinity, weekend only phone. At the moment I could get Sky TV, Plusnet fibre for £19 a month. . . .

Ive been with Talk Talk for a couple of years,1st year was great hassle free,2nd year when I moved house have had nothing but problems. I have to ring them every month for them to either send me a bill or correct it, with them

trying to reassure me it won't happen again, nightmare :(

Heard Plusnet are quite good though, am planning to move to them myself when contract is up with Talk Talk.

Presumably you're going through the same exchange/setup too so any contention you'd get, you'd get with BT too?

Plusnet's current 40meg fibre package only offers 2meg upload which is pretty poor, the only way to get more is to pay for the 80meg package even if your line can't support the full speed.

TalkTalk is the worst ISP in the country. From experience they also seem to throttle traffic a lot, even though they claim not to (or their infrastructure is just so bad it cant cope). Their support and billing departments are also shocking, which you will find out about if you move house, cancel, or have a connection problem.

You should know that Plusnet traffic shape. So advertising as "unlimited" is a bit of a con. Zen is one thats truely unlimited (and have UK based support), but are a bit more expensive.

They apply prioritisation to certain types of traffic(unlikely to be noticeable to the average person - I've just migrated from TalkTalk fibre and can't tell the difference), which is not the same as rate limiting, the OP can read about it here. Sorry, but saying they traffic shape and so it's not unlimited is total nonsense.

Understood, the same can be said for most mainstream ISP's, I think BT even traffic shape so it's not a huge problem as far as I'm concerned.

I used Zen for many years with a 512kbps connection and they were excellent but saying they're a 'bit' more expensive compared to PlusNet is a little off - over 18 months Zen is £719.88 for unlimited fibre 1, similar with a better call package on plusnet £496.88.

I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for, but I'll make allowances these days if it saves me £223 over a year and a half.

Edit - Swapped to PlusNet with £75 cash back a few moments ago.

Talktalk doesn't shape, but expect surprise/hidden fees and a large delay (3+ days) before broadband works on your line.

TalkTalk were fine for the year we had ADSL with them.

VDSL is a disaster and they lack any kind-of good fault finding or fault logging so all they can really do is send out Openreach blind. That would be fine but as the issue is intermittent like mine, they have no history to go on.

Support is a joke. Even the CEO's office hasn't been massively helpful. At least they're UK-based though.

Plusnet are good - we had them previously. UK support and they have some very good support agents, who know a lot about complex faults. I think we'll be going back to them.
