OK I have bought the bullet and bought a 120GB and a 240GB Samsung Pro's.
I'm toying with the idea of using Samsung's migration software to move from HDD to SSD, is this wise? or should i just do fresh install, once in windows on SSD drives how do i work out if i need to trim it?

Lastly any other advice i should be aware of before i take the plunge?

Here is a screen shot of my current drives all 3.5 spinners

you can only clone if your original hdd/os will fit onto the new ssd

otherwise its best to do a clean install, makesure the sata ports are set to ahci mode in the bios then install windows and then set the new ssd/os as first boot device in the bios

trim will run automatically if its win7/8

OK thanks for the reply wazza300, my 2 OS drives are smaller then my SSD's (as far as data is concerned) but larger in pure GB size, so i'll guess i'll do a fresh install best to be safe then faced with untold issues.

do a clone if the data will fit,its the exact same data just on a diferent drive,i always clone

use samsungs own data migration tool

Done a clone of C drive which was ok but D drive kept on failing, no big deal judt do a fresh instal however the SSD's are coming up as if they are USB drives ie; "Safely Remove Hardware" icon is on systry must admit not done all drivers yet so it could be that but never had that before.

ive seen that happen before but forgot what the cure was

you have hotswap enabled on the sata ports in the bios? that might affect it

SSD's are latest firmware, i'm going to do a fresh instal and see if i come across the same problem again, while it's setting itself i'll do some googleing on it and see if i can see anyone else in the same boat as me.

Sorry forgot to add i can't see "hotswap" anywhere in my bios it's an oldish motherboard an Asus P5E3 Premium (wifi version)
