Moving from Nvidia to AMD

Is it still necessary to run through various procedures of removing drivers, driver clean etc.

Or can I just put the AMD card in, uninstall NV stuff via CP and install AMD stuff?

It's been a while and I'm completely out of touch with gaming hardware

Uninstall the drivers and then use DriverFusion to remove any lingering files.

Just put the new card in, uninstall nvidia drivers then install amd ones.
I've had both vendor's drivers installed at the same time with no issues.

This, however, at your earliest convenience just do a format and start fresh. Should take 2-3 hours and it is nice to have a fresh copy of windows. I used to do it 3-4 times a year before, but a lot less so with ssd's being fast these days.

Before you take out Nvidia run DDU download from Guru3D, once complete switch off change over the GPU install AMD driver.
This how I would do it, but I expect a normal driver un-install to be more than enough.

If only it was as straightforward as banging in the Windows disc and sitting back for 30 minutes. It's the 40 billion staggered updates, new AV software, Steam client etc to install that would put me off!

Yeah, no need to reformat just for a graphic card change.
Die-hard reformatters are still stuck in the days before windows 7 and even XP, when you did need to reformat every now and then to stop windows slowing down, or whenever you changed any hardware. You really don't need to do that any more.

Went from an AMD 280X ( removed drivers / used DDU shut down option ), put in a 970, installed the drivers.

No issues

2-3 hours? You have an SSD. You must be doing something wrong.....

When I got my 295x2 from the 970 I just uninstalled all NVIDIA drivers and then installed the AMD card and drivers.

2-3 hours? You have an SSD. You must be doing something wrong.....

The OS install is like 10 minutes or so. But I assume people will want to get windows updates and install a few programs and games?
